Our Behavior Support Philosophy

We believe all behavior is communication. Our approach is compassionate, consistent, and collaborative.

โค๏ธ

Positive Behavior Support

We focus on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors rather than punishing challenging ones. Every child receives clear expectations and consistent encouragement.

๐Ÿง

Trauma-Informed Care

Staff are trained to recognize and respond to trauma responses. We create a safe, predictable environment where children can regulate and heal.

๐Ÿค

Collaborative Problem Solving

When challenges arise, we work with the child to understand the root cause and find solutions together โ€” not against them.

๐Ÿง˜

Sensory & Regulation Breaks

Every classroom has a calm-down corner. Students can request breaks anytime to self-regulate before returning to learning.

๐Ÿšซ What We Do NOT Use

  • โŒ Physical restraint (except imminent danger to self/others)
  • โŒ Seclusion rooms or isolation
  • โŒ Public shaming or punitive discipline
  • โŒ Withholding meals, bathroom, or therapy as punishment

๐Ÿ“‹ Our full behavior policy is available to parents upon request.

Daily Life

At Dagoretti Special School, daily life is a balance of care, learning, therapy, and skill-building. Our learners engage in structured routines that help them grow academically, socially, and practically.

A key part of each day involves vocational and life skills training, where studentsโ€”under the guidance of trained teachers and therapistsโ€”create a variety of handcrafted items. These activities build fine motor skills, concentration, and confidence while giving learners a sense of pride in meaningful work.

Items Students Create (Available for Sale)

Below are examples of the handcrafted items our students make. All proceeds go directly back to supporting the students and the school's programs.

๐Ÿ“‹ Challenges

We believe in transparency. Here are some of the challenges we face at Dagoretti Special School

โš ๏ธ

NEEDS ARE NOT LIMITED AND ARE ENORMOUS FOR SPECIAL NEED LEARNERS

We are committed to meeting these needs, but we cannot do it alone. We invite partners, donors, and the community to join us in this mission.

๐Ÿ“ข

Community Awareness Creation

Many families and community members are still unaware of the services we offer. This limits our reach and ability to support all learners who need us.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Infrastructure

We need more rooms for boarding and vocational workshops to expand our programs and accommodate more learners.

๐ŸšŒ

Learner Transport

Many learners lack reliable transport to school, which affects attendance and learning continuity.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ

Therapy Providers

We need more therapists (speech, OT, PT) to meet the growing demand for specialized support.

๐Ÿ”ง

Vocational Equipment & Learning Materials

Our vocational training programs need modern equipment and learning materials to effectively prepare our students for employment.

๐Ÿ’š Want to help? Partner with us to make a difference in the lives of our learners.
